Donating Your Old Stuff For a Good Cause

By, Hillsborough Self Storage Self Storage Comments: no comments

We love storage, but sometimes you just can’t keep things. But that doesn’t mean they’re useless! The next time you’re Marie Kondo-ing your house, don’t throw those things away: donate them to one of the many charitable organizations we’ve listed below! We’ve organized them by city, close to Hillsborough.

Greensboro and High Point

Here are some great donation spots in the Gate City:

  • The Bargain Box: a consignment store run by the Women’s Resource Center of Greensboro, the Bargain Box gives over $30,000 of clothing per year to women in need.
  • Freedom House: a thrift store with a cause: helping women recover from drug addiction through a year of free rent.
  • North Carolina African Services Coalition: accepting donations of furniture, clothes, and appliances for refugee families.

Alamance County

Here are some great donation spots for Hillsborough, Mebane, Burlington and beyond:

  • First Presbyterian Church Furniture Ministry: accepting donations of used and gently used furniture and household items for people who were homeless, lost their belongings in fires or floods, and other needy individuals.
  • Allied Churches of Alamance County: accepting gently used, small kitchen appliances, silverware, and other small items. They also accept food donations.
  • Good Samaritan Super Thrift: a nonprofit thrift store, accepting furniture, electronics, knick-knacks, and pretty much anything you don’t need. All proceeds benefit the Piedmont Rescue Mission, which helps the homeless and recovering addicts.

Triangle

Here are some great donation spots for the greater Raleigh-Durham area.

  • Raleigh Rescue Mission: accepting just about anything you can think of (furniture, clothes, electronics), with proceeds benefiting the homeless and impoverished.
  • Women’s Center of Wake County: accepting new or gently used women’s clothing to benefit homeless and impoverished women.
  • The Green Chair Project: a Cary-based charity accepting used furniture, kitchen supplies, and some small appliances to benefit victims of homelessness, crisis, or disaster.
